Winter tournament was in full swing last week which meant a number of MX athletes found themselves in different parts of New Zealand competing at their respective tournaments.
Not only did it mean a week off from the 5.30am MX alarm, it gave our team a chance to show out for their schools against competition from all over the country.
We’ve caught up with a few of the team and everyone seemed to enjoy the week away, we definitely enjoyed following the results from home base.
Wellington Girls, Wellington East and Marsden all made the short trip over the hill to take part in the Jenny Hair Cup. The three teams enjoyed successful weeks, WGC finished atop the heap claiming gold, while WEGC finished a respectable 3rd. Marsden also finished inside the top 8, a 5th place finish to their name.
Special shout out to MX regular, Ruby Baker, who netted 7 times for Wellington East. Especially impressive given her week was cut short due to an ankle injury.
Meanwhile, on the boys side, Wellington College attended the prestigious Rankin Cup and finished a respectable 11th, with MX team member Judd Adamson getting stuck in for the Coll Boys. There was also a strong MX representation in the WC 2Xl, who attended the Galletly Cup.
HIBS will make the jump to Rankin Cup in 2019 after an impressive 2nd place finish at the Founders Cup in Palmerston North. MX veteran and up & coming carver, Grayson Dawson will be one to watch next year.
Kudos to all of the MX crew who were part of last week’s hockey fiesta. Whether it was your first experience or your last, we hope you enjoyed all the buzz that comes with school hockey.
