Black Sticks Start Strong At Commonwealth Games

Women

Both the Men's and Women's Black Sticks have made a strong start at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

The Women opened their campaign with a 6-1 win over Scotland on Thursday, followed by a 12-0 win over Ghana on Friday night in a game that they controlled throughout. Two players - Stacey Michelsen and Anita McLaren - also recorded personal milestones of 250 international games and 100 international goals respectively.

A strong third quarter saw the Black Sticks Men to an impressive 6-2 win over up-and-comers Canada. Three former MX coaches - Harry Miskimmin, Dane Lett and Steve Jenness - took the field for the Black Sticks, with Dane and Steve each scoring a ripper of a goal.

Both the Men and Women now sit atop of their pools. The Women next play Canada at 1.30pm (NZT) on Sunday, while the Men will look to make it two from two against South Africa at 6.30pm (NZT) on Sunday.
